Debt Management FAQs

Why do lenders agree to reduced payments and frozen interest?

Although not obliged to do this by law, our relationship with creditors means that they will often accept reductions and frozen interest as a realistic solution to receiving payment, given that it's managed by an expert 3rd party.

What are your fees?

Our initial consultation is free and from there we charge minimal fees to cover administration and running costs. On average, our charges are £30 a month, which is incorporated into your budget.

If you are offered 'free' debt management service, the company is probably acting on behalf of one of your creditors.

I'm a client. Why am I still receiving threatening letters and calls despite arranging a DMP

Creditors will often take a while to update their systems, and you may continue to get letters despite them agreeing to your debt repayment plan. If you're a MMW client, please ignore the letters and forward them to us immediately.

If you're a client and you receive a phone call, simply tell them that Money Matters West Ltd are now acting on your behalf and payments are being made. Do not enter into a conversation.

I've received a County Court Claim Form. What shall I do?

Receiving this form means that your creditor has applied to court to claim the money you owe them.

If you are already a client, please do not pay. Forward the form and we'll complete the form on your behalf.

If you're not a client and you'd like advice on how to proceed, call 01275 338057. Our initial consultation is free.

I've received a County Court Judgement. What shall I do?

A County Court Judgment (CCJ) is a request for payment to a creditor set by the court, as a result of a county court action against you.

If you are a MMW client with a debt repayment plan, please send the CCJ to Money Matters. We will deal with the judgement on your behalf.

If you're not a client and you cannot pay the judgement, call us immediately on 01275 338057 for advice. Our initial consultation is free.
